Wheels in motion for Sinai School library bus

Sinai School Headteacher, Juliette Lipshaw together with Foundation Governor, Deborah Azagury-Slattery, have secured the school a London bus from Metroline, one of London’s leading bus operators, to transform into a school library bus.

The bus, which will be housed permanently in the playground, will put reading at the heart of the school and promote and foster a love of books. The children will be able to learn library skills, practice story making, listen to stories and share books.

Speaking about the bus Mrs Lipshaw enthuses, “This is an amazing opportunity for our school, to encourage the children to read in an age where they have become so dependent on technology. I want the children to revitalise their enthusiasm for reading real books. We hope that this will help to maintain our excellent reading levels in the school and give the children a rich variety of genre in their reading.”

“We want the bus to be a real feature and for families to work together as a school community to help make it happen. We welcome all painters, decorators, electricians, interior designers, story tellers to help create an innovative educational space for the children.”

The next stage in the process is to get the full specification of the bus and we are delighted our first parent volunteer has stepped forward to draw up some initial interior design concepts. We are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and dedication of the Metroline Engineering team to help make our dream a reality.

The plan is to have the bus installed and opened by the summer.

Metroline’s Chief Operating Officer, Sean O’Shea commented “We are pleased to be able to contribute to this school project that has the potential to make a real difference, promoting a love of learning, reading and a greater awareness of road safety for children. Converting and preparing the bus presents a number of challenges for our Engineering Team and we look forward to working with the school community to help the project be successful.”

Metroline share our commitment to develop road safety for our children. We will use the excitement and anticipation of housing a bus in our playground to develop road safety skills for our pupils.
